Liturgy of the Hours
| Share

The Liturgy of the Hours is a liturgical prayer recited at various times of the day. Compiled mostly from the Psalms its roots can be traced to King David and the night and day singing prayer movement he established in a tabernacle on Mt. Zion, and centered around the Ark of the Covenant.

The early Church viewed themselves as the restoration of David’s tabernacle. In the Church's First Council James declared:

“The words of the prophets agree with this, as is written: 'After this I shall return and rebuild the fallen hut of David; from its ruins I shall rebuild it and raise it up again, so that the rest of humanity may seek out the Lord, even all the Gentiles on whom my name is invoked.”
-Acts 15:15
